BigBrotherAwards 2002

Förderverein Informationstechnik und Gesellschaft (FITUG) creates connections to the virtual world of new media and data networks. The objectives of the association are to promote the integration of new media into society, to educate people about the techniques, risks and dangers of these media, and to safeguard human rights and consumer protection in computer networks. Patrick Goltzsch was a jury member in 2000–2002.

Rena Tangens is an artist, Internet pioneer and policy director of Digitalcourage. She co-founded Digitalcourage, then called FoeBuD, in 1987. She has received multiple awards for her work. 

padeluun is an artist, he is a co-founder and since 2024 the artistic lead of Digitalcourage. Digitalcourage works for a world worth living in the digital age, and since 2000, it organises the German Big Brother Awards in Bielefeld.

The Humanistische Union (Humanist Union) is an independent civil rights organization. Since its founding in 1961, it has worked to protect and enforce human and civil rights. Dr. Fredrik Roggan was a jury member of the BigBrotherAwards in 2002–2009.

Thilo Weichert is a former data protection commissioner of the state of Schleswig-Holstein. Netzwerk Datenschutzexpertise (Network Data Protection Expertise) is an group of experts who analyse laws and technologies in depth. Deutsche Vereinigung für Datenschutz (DVD, German Association for Data Protection) is an independent civil rights association. Thilo Weichert is a board member of Digitalcourage since 2024.

Frank Rosengart is a veteran of the BigBrotherAwards. He has been a member of the jury since 2002 and awarded the popular negative data protection prize in the “Technology” category. Frank Rosengart develops software in the Communications field and is a member of the Chaos Computer Club e.V. (CCC) – founded in 1981 and the largest European hacker association.  

Rolf Gössner is a German lawyer, publicist, parliamentary advisor and civil rights activist. He is also a member of the German NGO “International League for Human Rights” (German name: Internationale Liga für Menschenrechte, ILFM). ILFM regards human rights as undivisible, unalienable, and universal. In their view the term “human rights” equally includes protections and participation rights on the civil-political, social, and cultural levels – irrespective of origin, gender, skin colour, religion, or politicial views. Rolf Gössner has been part of the BigBrotherAwards from the very start. After more than 20 years he retired from the jury in 2021.
