Max Schrems

Max Schrems is an Austrian legal expert, author and privacy activist. He brought two successful lawsuits before the European Court of Justice (ECJ), ending the transnational Safe Harbor agreement between the EU and the US and subsequently the EU–US Privacy Shield. These decisions are seen as a strong signal for the protection of fundamental rights in Europe. He heads NOYB, an organisation dedicated to the enforcement of data protection rights.

Max Schrems was a guest auditor at the BigBrotherAwards in 2015.

The BigBrotherAwards highlight privacy and data protection offenders in business and politics, or as the French paper Le Monde once put it, they are the “Oscars for data leeches”.
