Google beerdigt umstrittene Cookie-Nachfolge-Technik fürs Tracking.

Zwei Jahre lang wurde FLoC – „Federated Learning of Cohorts“ – als datenschutzfreundliche Alternative zu Cookies verkauft. Die Idee: Nutzer.innen werden ohne individuelles Tracking in große Werbe-„Kohorten“ gruppiert. Überzeugt hat das niemanden. Browser wie Firefox, Safari und Edge boykottierten die Technik von Anfang an, WordPress zog mit. Verlage warfen Google vor, dem Werbemarkt das „Lebenselixier“ rauben zu wollen. Jetzt zieht der Konzern die Reißleine und präsentiert den Nachfolger „Topics“. Im Kern dasselbe Prinzip: Der Browser wird weiterhin zur Targeting-Zentrale, nur mit neuem Namen.
