Betrug bestanden, Software durchgefallen

Proctorio erkennt vorsätzliche Täuschungsversuche nicht.

Wissenschaftler.innen der Universität Twente wollten es genau wissen: Sie ließen 30 Studierende eine von Proctorio überwachte Prüfung ablegen, sechs von ihnen mit dem expliziten Auftrag zu schummeln. Das Ergebnis: Proctorio erkannte keinen einzigen Betrugsfall. Manche Teilnehmende verwendeten technische Tools, um bekannte Schwachstellen des Systems auszunutzen. Die Software schlug zwar Alarm, allerdings ebenso bei ehrlichen Studierenden mit denselben technischen Auffälligkeiten. Das Fazit der Forschenden: Die Software wirke „am ehesten wie ein Placebo – nicht weil sie funktioniert, sondern weil Menschen glauben, dass sie funktionieren könnte“.
